The Yacht’s Story
From Bob Golding:
Ricochet II is a “racing” version of the design. She has the Swarbrick fibreglass hull (I think Mark 1, ? built in 1976). I was attracted to the flush laid deck….she is wood from the toe-rail up….but I doubt any faster than the production design, limited head-room fwd of the doghouse…… she came originally from Adelaide.
She has had an extensive racing career, as evidenced by the plaque-board on the bulkhead. However, I am not that keen to race her, I do not think that she is now competitive with even the modern Beneteaux & Jeanneau, etc of the same size. (Although she might be in a long offshore race).
I think that the S&S 34’s differ essentially only in the design of the coachroof. Aesthetically, I liked “Ricochet”, but the picture of the one in the Grapevine (Edition 005?) I like even more…. If I can get further information on her, or on Rico, I will be very pleased.
From Julian Brenchley, Nov 2010:
Racing history includes 2 Syd to Hobarts, 1976 and 1978. Extensive racing in Port Philip Bay with many wins and plaques. IOR Certified 1985 No. KA5005C. Almost converted to a cruising yacht by past owner, now almost back to original racing configuration. Currently being refitted, new donk, prop shaft and prop, top sides painted, teak decking to cockpit, self-tailing winches, mast stripped and painted, new rigging, electricals, new nav lights, instruments, new steering pedestal, internal linings back to racing fitout.
