The Yacht’s Story

From Ken and Lee, 2008:

Came across our boat whilst trying to chase some info up on the S&S site on repairs to the backstay ram. We purchased Jari (pronounced as Yari – means beam of light that holds the morning star to the horizon) in 1997 when she was previously named Lopeti, prior to this it looks like she was called Osprey.

From Ken and Lee, 2016:

In 2005 we sandblasted below waterline, ground out the ossie, let dryout for 3 months and then refaired and triple coated with epoxy. In 2010 (pictures), sanded, refaired and painted topsides and spars with 3 final coats of Awlgrip in oyster white, sanded and refaired deck including removing majority of deck fittings expoxying holes, redrilling and reseating them, repainted in single pack, replaced all the standing and running rigging, wiring including changing light fittings to LED .

In 2013 we had to remove a leaking aluminium fuel tank so cut a hole in the cockpit floor and replaced with a plastic tank that can be removed over the top of the engine, we also replaced the V drive gearbox and all the plumbing (exhaust and bilge pumps) and refrigeration whilst we had access to this part of the boat.

in 2015 we re-varnished and repainted down below, the original teak finish has held up pretty well so fortunately got off lightly as compared to external, and replaced foam rubber in cushions.

in 2016 we finally bit the bullet and replaced the original stove/oven with a SMEG stove, griller, oven, some say our greatest improvement. Like all boats we still have a list of things to do, but nothing that stops us using the boat including cruising most parts of the east coast of Queensland.
