S&S 34 wins West Australian Offshore championship 2012-13!

Blondie was announced as the winner of the West Australian Offshore Championship at the Presentation Dinner on 29/6/13.  Blondie was well ahead of the rest of the fleet, winning all the Offshore prizes on offer in Div 3, including the YAH consistency, the YAH trophy and the major prize the Beneteau Offshore Championship on IRC rating. This year the 3 Divisions were all separate, with no overall winner announced. During the season where the yachts had sailed the same courses, Blondie had on a number of occasions beaten the larger boats including some professionally crewed custom designed IRC racers to win outright on IRC.

Owner Simon Torvaldsen was delighted to receive the trophies and believes they are proof that S&S 34s can compete at the highest levels of offshore racing against any modern design.  He also hopes it will encourage more S&S 34 owners to venture into offshore racing, and several owners have vowed to take him up on this challenge next season. Hopefully they can provide better competition than the Beneteaus did last season!

    • Thanks Bauke,
I like to remind those who say that “of course the 34 is an old design that can’t compete with the modern boats” that in fact we do, so much that the Beneteaus’ Jenneaus and farrs complain about it!
      Regards, Simon
