The 30th Annual Commodores’ race was sailed on Sunday 16th May 2010 in very light conditions.
This year the race was delayed until may due to a number of Commodores being unable to participate on the date originally scheduled. This year the Association tried hard to provide a full fleet of S&S 34s, and we were greatly encouraged by the fact that the race was sailed solely in S&S 34s, including some from the host club Fremantle Sailing Club, which had not been the case in recent years.
Unfortunately the very light winds made sailing difficult, and the race was shortened to just a windward and very short downwind leg. However, Juliann Lloyd-Smith from NYC sailed extremely well on Constellation to win a well deserved first and fastest. The rest of us think that the very beautiful, see-through light weather #1 genoa on Constellation may have assisted a little!
Second place went to Mark Purser (EFYC) on Le Jag, followed by Jim Suffield (HYC) on Perie Banou III. For full results see below.
Mike Finn, Constellation, was presented with the David & Kathleen Walters Memorial Trophy. The trophy consists a scale model of half a S&S34 hull beautifully mounted and inscribed with the names of the winning yachts in future Commodores Races.
