Inaugural Commodore’s race report, 1981

From the Association Newsletter:

On Sunday 12th April the Commodores of  ten yacht clubs and their wives along with owners and their wives of eight S&S 34’s enjoyed a delightful smorgasbord luncheon compliments of Fremantle Sailing Club.

The occasion was the inaugural Commodores’ race and each one sailed on a S&S 34.

Once the men were under starters orders the ladies enjoyed watching the sailing and plenty of conversation on the balcony of the club house.

We were also treated to a delightful afternoon tea and enjoyed freshly made scones.

At the completion of the race it was drinks all round in the VIP lounge again where Commodore Warren presented flags and Pewter mug trophies.  One each for the Commodore and owners of:

  1. SULPHUR                   SPYC & PFS
  2. SWAGMAN                 FSC
  3. PERIE BAMOU           RPYC

Certainly we ladies enjoyed ourselves, we are positive our menfolk did also.  Next year we hope to have enough 34’s to enable every Commodore to have a yacht to himself.
