Commodores Cup
The annual joust between the leaders of yacht clubs is hosted each year by Fremantle Sailing Club in a fleet of S&S34s, kindly provided by their members for the occasion. It is a fun event and full of the usual rivalry.
No Doubt there were some serious conversations and grave misgivings among the commodores at this year's event when Royal Perth Yacht Club vice-commodore Tony Carter not only appeared at the start line to represent his club but then drew one of the best-handicapped boats. He went on to win the handicap event.
Line honours went to Commodore John Andrews of RFBYC, who believes an inquiry may be needed into this apparent breach of etiquette.
South of Perth Yacht Club commodore Guy Skinner reportedly said: "Where was Peter Gibbs? He must be scared of racing against me."
No doubt a RPYC response will be forthcoming. Watch this space.
