The 2018 Commodore’s Perpetual Trophy Race was held on the 25th March at Fremantle Sailing Club. We had 10 S&S34’s present and 12 Commodore’s from various clubs in Western Australia.
The wind was a great 15-20knots and conditions were just right for our yachts up until midway in the race when the wind died and we were all left floating for a while. The breeze kicked in again and we were all away to the finish line. Refreshments and presentations were held after and enjoyed by all.
The final results were,
1st and Fastest – Perie Banou III – Owner Colin Sanders and Commodore Danny O’Byrne from East Fremantle Sailing Club
2nd Morning Tide – Owner Jim Putt and Commodore Graeme Cole from Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club
3rd Seashell – Owner Dave Mitchell and Commanding Officer Brian Delamont from HMAS Stirling, Fleet Base West.
The second S&S34 Association Race for 2012 was hosted by RFBYC on 25th February 2012. There was a generally light but very challenging SW breeze, with conditions ranging from 8-20 knots, sometimes within a few seconds, and windshifts of up to 45+ degrees.
The second S&S34 Association Race for 2010 was hosted by RFBYC on 5th February 2011. The race was started in a fresh variable easterly around 15 knots but gusting to 25, which seemed to drop slightly for a while and then strengthened to 20+ knots with gusts to 28. The gusty conditions and constant wind shifts made for quite tricky sailing conditions.
The first S&S34 Association Race for 2010 was hosted by RPYC on 27th November 2010. The weekend brought somewhat unusual weather for November. The normal morning Southeasterly followed by the fresh afternoon Fremantle Doctor blowing from the Southwest was replaced by an easterly that blew all day. By the afternoon the easterly had lightened to around 8-13 knots of shifting, gusty breeze that made sailing conditions quite tricky.
