The Fremantle to Albany race has a long history, being first run in 1968 and then as an annual event through the 70s and 80s. There was then a gap to 1995 when it was won by the UFO 34 Impulse and again to the last race in 2009 which was won by the 43’ IOR 2 tonner Farrago. Continue reading

This year Azzurro (formerly Shenandoah) is flying the S&S 34 flag in the Sydney Hobart race. Newly refurbished and campaigned by seasoned offshore racer Shane Kearns and a highly experienced crew, she will be one to watch if the conditions favour smaller boats. Michael Thorpe who now owns Soon at RPYC, is looking for good second hand #1 & #genoas. He has a Mk1 (short single spreader) rig and the required luff length is approx. 12.5m. His phone no is 0478882400.
The S & S 34 -TALL RIG Sweet Surrender has been refurbished from the bottom of the keel to the top of the mast.
2012-2013 EXTRNALLY – The hull and deck were completely refurbished and painted. The minor osmosis was professionally treated by Swarbricks. New keel bolts and new rudder were fitted. Lewmar custom portholes were installed, new pushpit, new pulpit, new stanchions, new stanchion bases, new standing rigging, new running rigging, new spectra halyards. Mast was refurbished and fitted with new tabernacle with pivot and mast lowering gear.
2012-2013 INTERNALLY – it was completely stripped and rebuilt with much improved layout. LED cabin lights, solar ventilators, new engine and new electronics fitted.
Engine: 18 HP Volvo D1-20 Diesel (engine new in 2013. Gearbox new in 2012)

Webmaster note: This is well worth a look as a lot of very expensive work has been done, the total cost would be considerably less than buying a cheaper boat and professionally restoring it. A lot of the cost of a yacht is in the fit out.

The 2014 AGM saw an updated Constitution approved. This is available to view under the “About Us” tab on the home page or by clicking here
The aim was to strengthen, clarify and modernise the Constitution rather than fundamentally change it. The original was drawn up some 35 years ago. Hopefully this version will last us another 35 years!
