Dick Newnham's Newsletter attachment
Dear all,
Please find attached the latest copy of the
Grapevine from our President Dick Newnham. The front cover features a
beautiful photo of Meltemi sailing in Queensland, and the back cover a
reproduction of the front coverof of SAIL magazine featuring Peter Morris'
Morning Tide (now up for sail at a bargain price as Peter has bought a larger
race boat).
For those in WA the Opening Day race at RPYC was a
great success, as Dick relates in his newsletter. I don't know quite how he
does it (perhaps long experience is the answer!) but Dick always seesm to give
fair and balanced handicaps and the results are close and reflect the
performances on the day. We are looking at trying some more races along the
same lines later in the season. It is quite informal and low pressure (no
prizes!) so any owner can be involved and we all have fun.
For those wondering about my new boat (yes, should
have been in the water by now) we are looking at a launch within the next few
weeks. I guess then I will have to take some photos and make my own web page
to add to all yours!
Huckleberry is racing back from Geraldton this
weekend, after taking out 1st place under YAH and 2nd on IRC (only 4 minutes
off winning) on the way up. Good luck Steve!. It is always good to see S&S
34s still winning places in signifcant ocean races after all these years.
Also a new World Record set by Jamie Dunross. There were some brand new "IRC
optimised" boats in this race beaten by Steve.
Please do not hesitate to email me with any
interesting information or updates for your web page. In the meantime, good
sailing to all.
